Cross Country Back In Action Saturday In Chicago

2006 Men's and Women's Individual Times

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 27, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this weekend at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, Saturday, in Chicago. The first race kicks off at 11:45 a.m.

Last season, head coach Pete Corfeld held out a handful of his top runner for the Loyola Invite and the Panther women took 25th out of 28 teams, while the men did not register a team score.

UWM will have not competed in two weeks, having last run at the Illini Challenge. The women finished third at the meet, tallying 71 points, while host Illinois ran away with top honors with 29 points. Sophomore Holly Nearman paced the Panthers for the second-straight meet, taking seventh in 19:01.

On the men's side, junior Nick Hawley led Milwaukee with a 14th place showing. Hawley crossed the line in 26:33, while the Panther men took fourth place at the meet.

Milwaukee has another two weeks off before returning to action at the Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 14, in Terre Haute, Ind. The meet, hosted by Indiana State, will be run on the same course as the NCAA Championships on Nov. 20.
