Panther Women Run To 15th-Place Finish At RegionalNov. 13, 2004
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Senior Anna Christian was once again the Panthers' top finisher as she took 58th to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Saturday afternoon in Ypsilanti. UWM finished with 480 points, while the University of Michigan ran away with top honors with 40 points. A first-team all-league honoree in back-to-back seasons, Christian completed the 6000-meter course with a time of 21:36.7. Sophomore Tenia Fisher also finished inside the top-100, finishing in 22:29.6 to take 99th. Junior Christine Wampach, freshman Holly Nearman and junior Griffin McNulty closed out the Milwaukee scorers, each finishing among the top 112 runners, seven seconds apart. Wampach was 104th in 22:34.9, five seconds back of Fisher, while Nearman in 107th (22:39.3) and McNulty finished 112th (22:41.5), two seconds apart to compete the scoring. After taking 17th in 2003, UWM improved by two spaces to post its 15th-place finish this season. The Wolverines and University of Notre Dame once again took the top two places, with the U of M edging the Irish for the Regional Championship. Butler University took sixth as the only league foe to edge the Panthers among the six teams competing. Also running well for Milwaukee was junior Katie Anderson and sophomore Kourtney Nault. Anderson was another two seconds behind McNulty with a time of 22:43.5 in 118th. Nault was 151st in 23:29.3
The event closes out the season for the Panthers, who added a third-place finish at Oct. 30's Horizon League Championships to its season's credits. |
