Nearman Earns All-Region Honors At NCAA Regional
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Nov. 10, 2007) - Senior Holly Nearman placed 12th to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Saturday afternoon. Nearman crossed the line in 21:27.78 to earn all-region honors with the top regional finish in school history. She also put herself in position to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships. The selections will be announced early Sunday evening. The Panthers, meanwhile, scored 453 points to place 18th at the regional. Michigan State took top honors with 60 points. Junior Erin Magargee continued the strong ending to her season, as she was the second finisher with a time of 22:44.77 for 65th place. That was the 16th-best regional finish in school history. Sophomore Abbie Zaspel was the next Panther across the line, taking 77th in 22:58.32. Senior Angie Huebner took 139th and junior Elizabeth Brothen 164th to round out the Milwaukee scorers. Huebner crossed the line in 23:47.33 and Brothen finished in 24:18.89. Also running for UWM was sophomore Laura Ring and freshman Hannah Willis. Ring placed in 24:46.12 and Willis was 194th in 25:21.83. Milwaukee has not had a woman qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships in team history. The previous best regional finished was 25th place by Angie Molter in 1994.
