Women Finish Sixth At League ChampionshipsNov. 2, 2002
MILWAUKEE - Freshman Katie Anderson finished 20th overall to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the Horizon League Championships Saturday morning at Chicago's Montrose Harbor. Anderson finished the 5K course in 19:09 to be the top finisher for Milwaukee on the day. She was followed by senior Abby Hurst, who finished 21st with a time of 19:12, and Alison Shattuck, in 22nd with a time of 19:14. Anna Christian was the fourth Panther finisher, placing 39th in 20:04, while Michelle Blomquist was the fifth finisher for Milwaukee, ending up 40th with a time of 20:07. Butler finished first overall on the day, totaling just 31 points. Loyola finsihed second with 59 points, followed by UIC, Youngstown State and Wright State. After Milwaukee in sixth place was Youngstown State, UW-Green Bay and Cleveland State. Detroit's Kim Hemstreet was the overall race winner, finishing the course in 17:33.
The Panthers will next compete at the Great Lakes Regionals on Nov. 16 at West Lafayette, Ind., for the right to advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held on Nov. 25 in Terre Haute, Ind.
