Milwaukee Takes Third At League Cross Country Meet
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 28, 2006) - Three Panthers earned all-league honors to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a third-place showing at the 2006 Horizon League Championships Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. UWM scored 69 points to finish just 14 points back of second and place third for the fourth-straight year. Butler won the meet with 19 points, while Loyola was second with 55. Sophomore Holly Nearman paced the Panthers taking seventh and being named to the all-league first team. She finished the 5000m race in 18:29.50. Junior Angie Huebner and senior Kourtney finished 12th and 13th to earn places on the league's second team. A first-team honoree last season, Huebner ran a time of 18:56.00 for 12th. Meanwhile, Nault was the next finisher in 13th with a time of 19:07.10. Sophomores Erin Magargee and Elizabeth Brothen rounded out the Panther scorers. Magargee just missed league second team honors, taking 15th in 19:25.55. Brothen was 23rd in 19:58.55. Freshman Laura Ring and sophomore Danielle Magargee completed the team's top seven. Ring was 38th in 21:04.65 and Magargee was 40th with a time of 21:15.00. Ava Hutchinson from Butler won the race with a time of 17:49.70. Milwaukee will look to extend its season Nov. 11 at the NCAA Regional in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Panthers will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind.
