Zaspel, Magargee Pace Panthers At Bradley Classic

All-league duo paces squad to seventh-place finish

PEORIA, Ill. (Oct. 17, 2008) - Junior Abbie Zaspel took 13th and senior Erin Magargee was just three seconds back in 14th to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Bradley Classic Friday evening.

The Panthers finished with 175 points for seventh in the 15-team field. Iowa State claimed first place at the meet with 51 points, while Horizon League schools Butler, UIC and Green Bay also competed at the meet. The Bulldogs were 11th, while the Flames took 13th and the Phoenix 15th.

"Both (our men's and women's) teams ran really well," head coach Pete Corfeld said. "Everyone is rolling right now heading into the conference meet (in two weeks). They are all running strong and we can't wait for conference."

Zaspel edged out Magargee for top team honors with a time of 22:05 to Magargee's time of 22:08. Magargee's twin sister, Danielle, was the next UWM finisher, taking 26th in 22:35.

Junior Laura Ring and sophomore Tanaiya Fisher rounded out the Panther scorers, with Ring taking 61st and Fisher 83rd. Ring crossed the line in 23:16 and Fisher finished in 23:58.

The Bradley Classic was Milwaukee's final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships, Nov. 1, in Green Bay, Wis.
