Women's Cross Country Takes Second In Pre-National Open RaceOct. 16, 2004
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Anna Christian finished second to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a second-place finish in the open race at the Pre-National Invitational, Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute. This same Indiana State Cross Country Course plays home to both the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships in November. Christian finished the 6000m course with a time of 22:05.0 to finished second among scored runners, just eight seconds off the first-place pace. Also scoring a top-20 finish was freshman Holly Nearman. She crossed the line in 22:58.8 to take 14-place honors. Milwaukee finished the meet with 76 points to finish just seven points back of first-place Northern Illinois (69). The Panthers and Huskies distanced themselves from the pack, as third-place UC-Riverside tallied 95 points and Northern Iowa (104 points) and Western Illinois (118) rounded out the top five. Finishing out UWM's top five was senior Christine Wampach, junior Katie Anderson and sophomore Tenia Fisher. Wampach completed the distance in 23:14.5 for 21st-place, while Anderson was 12 seconds back with a time of 23:26.1 and 32nd place. Fisher hung with the upperclassmen, posting a time of 23:39.8 in taking 43rd. Narrowly missing a scoring opportunity was freshman Angie Huebner in 54th-place and sophomore Kourtney Nault in 62nd. Huebner ran a time of 24:03.9 and Nault finished in 24:12.5. The Panthers are in action next when they host the 2005 Horizon League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Parkside National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis.
