TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Holly Nearman led the way for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team on Saturday morning, taking 77th place at the 2007 NCAA Pre-National Invitational meet. Today marked the ninth-straight meet she has been the top finisher for UWM.

The Panthers were at the Pre-Nationals for the first time since 2005. The event had a field that included many of the top-ranked teams in the nation and was held at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course at Indiana State Saturday morning. The squads were split into two races, with Milwaukee competing in the "White" race.

Jenny Barringer of Colorado was the overall winner, finishing in 19:48. Princeton won the team championship in the "White" race.

Nearman finished in a time of 21:31 to easily place in the top 100. She was followed by sophomore Abbie Zaspel in a time of 22:40 (164th) and senior Angie Huebner in 22:59 (187th). Junior Erin Magargee was also in the top 200, taking 198th in a time of 23:15.

Other finishers for UWM included junior Elizabeth Brothen (220th at 24:18), freshman Hannah Willis (22nd at 24:50) and freshman Tanaiya Fisher (225th at 24:50).

Instead of splitting the team up and heading to the UW-Parkside Invitational, the rest of the team ran in the "Open" race at the Pre-National meet. Sophomore Laura Ring (24:56), freshman Kristi Wasserburger (25:12), freshman Kelli Grundmann (25:56) and junior Danielle Magargee (27:48) rounded out the Milwaukee runners in the open race.
