Nearman paces team for third-straight week

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 30, 2006) - Sophomore Holly Nearman paced the Panthers for the third-straight meet and junior Angie Huebner made her 2006 debut as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team finished eighth at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

Milwaukee tallied 227 points in the 19-team field, while competing against league foes Loyola (3rd) and UIC (12th).

Nearman scored a 21st-place finish as the top UWM finisher, crossing the line in 18:42. Senior Kourtney Nault finished 40th in 19:02 and sophomore Erin Magargee was 49th in 19:14.

An all-league first-team performer last season, Huebner competed in her first race of the 2006 season and posted a time of 19:25 for 62nd place. Sophomore Elizabeth Brothen rounded out the scoring runners with a 66th-place showing. She had a time of 19:51.

Freshmen Laura Ring and Erin Willis and sophomore Danielle Magargee also ran in the meet. Ring placed 144th (21:33), while Willis was 147th (21:43) and Magargee was 149th (21:46).

UWM has two weeks off before returning to action at the Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 14, in Terre Haute, Ind. The meet, hosted by Indiana State, will be run on the same course as the NCAA Championships on Nov. 20.
