Nearman Takes 56th To Pace UWM Women At Griak Invite

Panthers take 22nd as team at national-caliber meet

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Sept. 29, 2007) - Senior Holly Nearman took 56th place to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a 22nd-place showing at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Host Minnesota took top honors in the 26-team field, while the individual winner was Emily Harrison from Virginia.

Nearman ran a time of 22:47 to lead the Panthers in 56th place. Senior Angie Huebner was UWM's second finisher in 107th with a time of 23:51. Junior Erin Magargee crossed the line in 24:08 for 122nd place, sophomore Abbie Zaspel was 134th in 24:26 and junior Liz Brothen rounded out the scorers in 159th place with a time of 25:19.

Freshman Hannah Willis was also among the team's top seven, taking 162nd in 25:32, while sophomore Laura Ring was the seventh Panther finisher with a time of 26:08 for 171st place.

UWM takes two weeks off before splitting up for a pair of meets Saturday, Oct. 13. Some Panthers will head to the NCAA Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute,Ind. The remainder of the team will head to Kenosha, Wis., for the Parkside Invitational.
