Christian Leads Women's Cross Country At Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior Anna Christian finished 69th to pace the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a 28th-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational, Saturday afternoon, in Minneapolis. A first-team all-league selection last year, she completed the course in 22:42.

Continuing sensational freshman campaigns, Holly Nearmann and Angie Huebner were the second and third Panther runners to finish, respectively. Nearmann placed 128th in the 273-person race, while Huebner was 168th. The duo posted times of 23:34 and 24:14 on the day.

Rounding out the scorers for Milwaukee was senior Christine Wampach and junior Katie Anderson. The two Panthers finished 11 seconds apart, as Wampach turned in a time of 24:29 for a 178th-place finish. Anderson, who took 183rd, crossed the line in 24:40.

Providence won the 29-team event, boasting the individual winner in Kim Smith, and scoring just 58 points. Arizona State, UC-Santa Barbara, Baylor and Arkansas completed the top five, while Horizon league foe, Butler, was sixth.

Also running for UWM was junior Griffin McNulty and sophomore Tenia Fisher. McNulty posted a time of 24:50 and Fisher finished the distance in 25:07.

The Panthers take three weeks off before attending the Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 16, in Terre Haute,Ind. It will be the second consecutive national race for Milwaukee and also the final tune-up for the Horizon League Championship, Oct. 30, in Kenosha, Wis.
