UWM Women Take Fifth At Valpo Invitational
VALPARAISO, Ind. (Sept. 8, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country had a pair of top-20 finishers in taking fifth at the Valparaiso Invitational, Friday evening in Valparaiso, Ind. It was the first meet of the season for the Panthers. Milwaukee finished with 121 points, while host Valparaiso paced the field with 36 points. Notre Dame was just one point back with 37 and IPFW finished third with 70. Western Michigan finished just ahead of UWM with 94, while St. Joseph's (167 points) and UW-Green Bay (185) rounded out the field. Sophomore Holly Nearman led the way with a 13th-place finish. She crossed the line in 15:17. Senior Kourtney Nault also finished in the top 20, placing 19th in 15:34. Sophomore Erin Magargee also posted a sub-16:00 time, running 15:47 for 21st place. Taking 27th was sophomore Elizabeth Brothen with a time of 16:03, while Erin Willis rounded out the scoring five with a 41st-place finish (17:29). Sophomore Danielle Magargee and freshman Hannah Christ rounded out the top seven. Danielle Magargee placed 44th with a time of 17:41 and Christ was 49th in 19:29. The Panthers returns to action next Friday (Sept. 15) at the Illini Challenge in Champaign, Ill. The first race begins at 5 p.m.
