CHICAGO, Ill. - Freshmen Angela Huebner and Holly Nearmann finished first and second tro lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a 3-0 record in its season opener, the UIC Home Opener, Saturday morning in Chicago. Junior Griffin McNulty also finished fourth to lead the Panthers to wins over UIC, Chicago State and the University of Chicago. Huebner paced the field on the two-mile course, finishing in 11:42. Four seconds later, Nearmann crossed the line with a time of 11:46. McNulty used a time of 12:07 to add another Panther to the top five. Sophomore Tenia Fisher finished 12th and sophomore Kristina Gasser was 16th to close out UWM's scoring runners. Fisher posted a time of 12:32, while Gasser completed the course in 12:44. Milwaukee picked up a clean sweep of Chicago State, 15-50, and crusied past the host Flames, 20-38. With all five scorers among the top nine, the University of Chicago made it close, with UWM getting the 28-29 edge. Three more Panthers competed at the meet in senior Teresa Braunreiter and sophomores Maggie Seed and Martha Root. Braunreiter placed 18th in 12:52, while Seed was 21st in 13:04 and Root finished 26th in 14:05. The Panthers have next weekend off, before returning to action, Sept. 18, at the Parkside Invitational in Kenosha, Wis. Milwaukee will run on the same course that it will host the Horizon League Championships at, Oct. 30.
