Sept. 3, 2005

CHICAGO, Ill. - Freshman Megan Johnson won the UIC Home Invitational Saturday morning in Chicago to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team to a 1-2 record in the meets dual-scoring format. The Panthers topped Chicago State, 15-45, but fell to league foes UIC (25-30) and UW-Green Bay (27-28).

It was the first collegiate race for Johnson, who became the second Panther freshman to win this event in as many years. Sophomore Angie Huebner was victorious in 2004, while also making her college debut.

Johnson crossed the line of the shorter, two-mile course with a time of 11:54. She was joined in the top 10 by senior teammates Griffin McNulty and Katie Anderson. McNulty was sixth in the race, with a time of 12:30, and Anderson was eighth in 12:35.

After redshirting last season, freshman Danielle Magargee also made her collegiate debut with a 13th-place finish (13:04), as junior Maggie Seed rounded out the scorers in 16th (13:20). The third newcomer to compete at the meet for UWM, freshman Liz Brothen, placed 17th (13:33).

The Panthers return to action Friday (Sept. 9) at the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill. The race gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
