CHICAGO, Ill. (Sept. 1, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's cross country team posted a 2-4-1 record at the UIC Invitational Saturday afternoon to officially start the 2007 season.

The Panthers scored wins over host UIC (26-29) and Chicago State (15-47), while tying another league opponent in Green Bay (28-28). UWM fell to Northwestern (15-48), DePaul (15-45), Loyola (15-48) and St. Xavier (16-44).

Milwaukee competed with seven underclassmen, including five freshmen.

Freshman Tanaiya Fisher led the way, taking 25th in 12:31. Freshman Hannah Willis was close behind in 12:35 for 27th place. Freshman Kristi Wasseburger finished 34th in 12:44 and freshman Kelli Grundmann 41st in 12:56. Sophomore Laura Ring rounded out the scoring runners in 52nd place with a time of 13:39.

Sophomore Hannah Christ and freshman Andrea Kloehn also competed, with Christ taking 59th in 14:26 and Kloehn taking 65th in 15:30.

The Panthers return to action Friday (Sept. 7) at the Crusader Open. Valparaiso, the newest member of the Horizon League, hosts the meet in Valparaiso, Ind.
