Panthers To Face Challenging Schedule In 20095/19/2009 - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's volleyball team will play 11 contests against teams that won at least 19 matches a season ago, according to the 2009 schedule released today by head coach Susie Johnson. The Panthers, who will be seeking their seventh-straight Horizon League regular season title, will face teams from the Big 12, Big Ten, Big East, SEC and Conference USA during the non-league portion of its schedule. Then, Milwaukee will face an imbalanced league slate that begins with seven of eight on the road before ending with seven of eight matches at home. UWM will take on this challenging slate with a team that returns six of seven starters and all but one letterwinner from a season ago. Plus, Milwaukee adds Tennessee transfer Jena Berg and will likely be the odds-on favorite in the Horizon League. Read Full Release 5/19/2009 Burlington Standout Bartz Joins Panthers' Roster
Anna Bartz of Burlington, Wis., has enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and will join the volleyball team as a walk-on, head coach Susie Johnson announced today. Bartz, a 5-foot-7 defensive specialist, has starred at both Burlington High School and with the Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's volleyball team is being recognized for its top academic performance as part of the NCAA's academic reform program. The award adds to a lengthy list of academic honors for the UWM volleyball program, which is annually recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association for its work in the classroom. This past year, the Panthers placed three players on the 12-person Horizon League All-Academic Team, while junior Lauren Felsing earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America recognition.
