Felsing Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Honors
Nov. 23, 2009
MILWAUKEE - Lauren Felsing of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's volleyball team has earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America recognition. Felsing carries a 3.97 grade-point average in marketing and claimed a spot on the third team after winning ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors earlier this month. This is the second-straight season the senior libero has earned Academic All-America honors, while she is one of two UWM volleyball players to ever win Academic All-America acclaim. Cheryl Hegemann was named to the third team in 2006. On the court, Felsing has led the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament for an eighth time this season. She claimed tournament most valuable player honors after averaging 4.75 digs per set in UWM's three victories. Felsing became UWM's all-time digs leader during this past weekend's Horizon League Tournament, as she now has 1,905 in her career. She also finished off her matchups with league opponents having reached double figures in digs in 55-straight contests against the league. This season, she has 548 digs, second on UWM's single-season list to the 645 she tallied last season. Her on-court resume also includes two-time All-Horizon League recognition and a pair of Horizon League All-Tournament Team honors in addition to her MVP award this year. Plus, she earned American Volleyball Coaches' Association honorable mention all-region recognition in 2008. She is also a five-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honoree. Academically, Felsing is also a two-time Horizon League All-Academic honoree, a three-time U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week winner and the league's scholar-athlete of the month last September. Felsing and the Panthers are awaiting word of their NCAA Tournament destination and first-round opponent. The pairings for the tournament will be announced Sunday afternoon.
