Nov. 20, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Lauren Felsing of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's volleyball team has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. Felsing, a junior libero, is a second-time winner of the award, while she was also named the league's scholar-athlete of the month for September. This past weekend, Felsing reached double figures in digs in both of UWM's matches as the Panthers clinched their sixth-straight Horizon League regular season title. Then Wednesday, Felsing earned a spot on the All-Horizon League team. Overall, Felsing has reached double figures in digs 53-straight times, the second-longest streak in the nation. She ranks third in the league and in the top 20 nationally in digs. In the classroom, Felsing carries a 3.982 cumulative grade-point average as a marketing major. She won ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors earlier this month and is now under consideration for Academic All-America honors. She also earned the athletic director's award this past spring for having the highest grade-point average in the UWM athletics department. Felsing and the Panthers are off to Cleveland this weekend for the Horizon League Tournament. UWM, which holds the top seed in the event, will face either UIC or Youngstown State in a quarterfinal match Friday morning.
