Three Panthers Named to the GTE Academic All-District V Teams
Nov. 18, 1999 MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball seniors Ericka Malterer (Sr., OP, Waupun, Wis.), Katie Schneider (S, West Bend, Wis.) and Sue Raschka (MB, Chicago, Ill.) were named to the 1999 GTE Academic All-District V volleyball teams. Malterer was named to the first team, while Schneider and Raschka were named second team. Malterer, who has a 3.49 GPA, finished the regular season as she started it, the No.1 all-time player in career kills at UWM with 1,509 career kills to date. She leads the Panther team in kills, accumulating 330 for the season and is averaging 3.79 kills per game. She also set a new career digs record for UWM, accumulating 1,137 career digs to date. Malterer was named the UWM Pepsi Athlete of the Month for September, was named the Tournament MVP for the Panther Invitational, and was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Wisconsin Challenge. She earned MCC Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 13 as well. Schneider, who has a 3.54 GPA, is the all-time UWM career assists leader with 5,099 career assists to date. She is averaging 14.19 apg, placing her fourth in the nation in assists and No. 1 in the conference. Schneider currently dominates the UWM record books in single-match assists, season assists and career assists. She leads the team in service aces with 41 so far this season, placing her second in the UWM single-season records. She was named to the All -Tournament Team at the Purdue Premier and was named the UWM Pepsi Athlete of the Month for October. Raschka, who carries a 3.54 GPA, is a dominant middle blocker for the Panthers. She is fourth on the team in kills, averaging 3.44 kpg. She was the only Panther named to the All-Tournament Team from each of the team’s three tournament outings this season, the Purdue Premier, the Panther Invitational, and the Wisconsin Challenge. She earned MCC Player of the Week honors twice this season, for the weeks of Sept. 27 and Oct. 18. In addition, she has tallied 246 career blocks, placing her second in the Panther record books and her last season’s 118 blocks ranked fourth in the record books. She leads the team this season in solo blocks with 15 and is second on the squad in total blocks with 55. She has tallied 715 career kills going into this weekend’s MCC Tournament, placing her fourth in the record books. The Panthers travel to Chicago, Ill., Saturday for the MCC Volleyball Tournament hosted by the Loyola Ramblers. The Panthers are the top-seeded team in the conference, earning them a bye in the first round. They will take on the winner of the Wright State-Butler match on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m. in LUC’s Gentile Center.
