Hegemann Earns Academic Honors

Junior named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team

Nov. 10, 2005

MILWAUKEE - Cheryl Hegemann of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America.

The junior has been a standout on and off the court for the Panthers this season, helping UWM to its third-straight Horizon League regular season title.

In the classroom, Hegemann has compiled a 3.83 grade-point average while majoring in education. She has been a regular on both the Horizon League honor roll and UWM's Dean's List.

On the floor, Hegemann is the team leader in kills while ranking second on the team in blocks. She has 11 double-doubles on the season and was named to the all-tournament team at the Holiday Inn-Hawkeye Challenge. Her best performance of the season came Oct. 8 against Youngstown State, when she tallied a collegiate-best 28 kills while hitting .436 and adding 16 digs.

Hegemann's honor adds to the strong academic standing of the Panther volleyball team. This August, the Panthers were one of 45 Division I teams given the Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award, given to teams that maintain at least a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
