Felsing Earns Academic All-District Honors
Nov. 6, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Junior Lauren Felsing of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team has earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V First Team honors. Felsing carries a 3.98 grade-point average in marketing while ranking in the top 15 nationally in digs. This season, Felsing has earned Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honors twice. She has reached double figures in digs in 49-straight matches, the third-longest active streak in the country. She is also on pace for the best single-season for digs in UWM history while moving up to fourth on UWM's all-time digs list. Meanwhile, Felsing has helped direct the Panthers to the top spot in the Horizon League with four matches remaining in the regular season. In fact, UWM is seeking its sixth-straight regular season league title. In the classroom, Felsing has earned both U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week and Scholar-Athlete of the Month honors this season. She also earned Horizon League All-Academic honors last season. Felsing is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be voted upon in the next several weeks. This marks the fourth-straight year a UWM player has earned academic-all region honors. Lauren's sister, Leanne Felsing, claimed honors last season while Cheryl Hegemann captured academic all-region recognition in both 2005 and 2006. To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America honors, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 and be either a starter or key reserve. District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba.
Felsing and the Panthers return to action Friday night, welcoming Cleveland State to the Klotsche Center. The match begins at 7 p.m. |
