Felsing Named League Defensive Player Of The Week

Junior libero earns honor for second time this season

Oct. 13, 2008

MILWAUKEE - Junior libero Lauren Felsing of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been named the Horizon League Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Felsing averaged 6.44 digs per set as UWM won four league matches in six days this past week. The Panthers (14-5, 7-1 Horizon) now hold a two-match lead atop the league standings at the halfway point of the league schedule.

During this past week, Felsing started by tallying 19 digs in a win over Loyola Tuesday and followed that up with 30 digs in a victory over UIC Wednesday. Over the weekend in Ohio, she had 25 digs in a three-set victory at Youngstown State Saturday and capped the week with a 29-dig effort against Cleveland State Sunday.

Felsing has now reached double figures in digs in 44-straight contests, tied for the third-longest active streak in the country. And, she has 1,126 career digs, tied for seventh on UWM's all-time list.

It's the second time this season Felsing has won the league's defensive honor, while teammates Becky Peters (offensive) and Natalie Schmitting (defensive) have also been recognized this season. Plus, Felsing has been recognized for her work in the classroom this year, winning U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week and Month recognition.

Felsing and the Panthers have just one match this week. Milwaukee will welcome Wright State to the Klotsche Center for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday. The contest is part of this weekend's "Pink Out" festivities involving both volleyball and women's soccer, with a youth clinic preceding the volleyball match.
