Sophomore Chrissy Schurla Named MCC Volleyball Player of the Week
Oct. 11, 1999 MILWAUKEE - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Chrissy Schurla (MB, So., Chicago, Ill., Evergreen Park HS) was named the MCC Volleyball Player of the Week the conference office announced today. In a big weekend that pitted UWM against the only other MCC teams undefeated in conference play, Schurla put on an impressive performance in her hometown of Chicago, leading the Panthers to wins over UIC and Loyola. The Panthers remain the only undefeated team left in conference play. Throughout the weekend, Schurla tallied 30 kills, for an 4.29 kpg average, with an impressive .474 hitting percentage. She also turned in the team’s top defensive performance, recording 9 digs (1.29 dpg), with a team-leading 6 solo blocks and 3 block assists (1.29 bpg). In individual matches, Schurla led the team in its win over conference-rival Loyola, collecting 20 kills and hitting .545. She also led the team on defense, adding 8 digs, 6 solo blocks and 1 block assist on defense. This is the fourth time this year that a UWM volleyball player has earned conference player of the week honors so far this season. Laura Dallenbach (OH, So., Waterloo, Iowa, West) earned the honor the week of Sept. 6, Ericka Malterer (OP, Sr., Waupun, Wis., Waupun) earned the honor the week of Sept. 13, and Sue Raschka (MB, Chicago, Ill., Immaculate Heart of Mary) earned the honor the week of Sept. 27.
