MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball team breaks from collegiate action to take on the newly formed United States Professional Volleyball League (USPV) Dream Team in an exhibition match-up tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Panthers (15-1, 4-0 in the MCC) return to conference action on Friday night when they play host to Wright State at 7 p.m. and on Saturday night when they take on Butler at 4 p.m. All matches will be held in UWM’s Klotsche Center.

A Look at the USPV

The Panthers will face some of the nation’s top volleyball players when they play host to the USPV Dream Team tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the Klotsche Center. The Dream Team, made up of 20 world-class athletes, is part of the USPV, the newly formed women’s pro indoor volleyball circuit. The team is currently touring and competing against some of the top international, professional, and collegiate teams across the United States as part of its Great Mid-America Professional and University Fall Tour.

The USPV’s Great Mid-America Professional and University Fall Tour ends when the USPV Dream Team competes in the USA vs. The World Millennium Cup series in May of 2000. In late December 1999 and early January 2000, a college draft will be held to select twenty collegiate athletes to join the USPV in The World Millennium Cup series.

Following the Great Mid-America Tour, the USA vs. The World Millennium Cup, and the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, the USPV will start its inaugural season in January 2001.

Arie Selinger, a former U.S. Olympic coach and widely-renowned figure in the volleyball community, is the head coach for the USPV Dream Team. International coach Satoshi Matsunagi is the team’s associate head coach. Ping Cao and Haruyz Indo join Selinger and Matsunaga to complete the top-notch USPV staff.
