Oct. 9, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Lauren Felsing of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's volleyball team has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September, the league office announced today. Felsing, a junior libero, won the league's weekly scholar-athlete honor Sept. 3 after earning league defensive player of the week honors Sept. 1. During the first month of the season, Felsing reached double figures in digs in every match. Her best statistical effort came in the second match of the season, when she collected 29 digs in a five-set win over then-#18 Iowa State. Felsing was also named to the all-tournament team at both the Wyndham by Wingate Invitational and the Michigan State Showcase. Felsing hasn't let up once the calendar turned to October. She has already collected a collegiate-best 33 digs against Green Bay Oct. 3 and 30 digs in a win over UIC Oct. 8. She has also now surpassed 1,000 digs in her career and ranks eighth on UWM's all-time list. On the season, Felsing is averaging 5.07 digs per set, good for third in the league and among the top 25 marks in the nation. In the classroom, Felsing carries a 3.982 cumulative grade-point average as a marketing major. She earned the athletic director's award this past spring for having the highest grade-point average in the UWM athletics department.
