MILWAUKEE - The UWM women's volleyball team won for the 38th time in its last 39 home matches, beating Wright State 15-7, 15-5, 3-15, 15-11, Saturday at the Klotsche Center.

Junior Chrissy Schurla led a balanced Panther attack with 12 kills, while junior Laura Dallenbach added 11. UWM (12-3, 4-1 MCC) used its defense to control the Raider attack, limiting Wright State to a .137 hitting percentage.

"I'm happy with the way we battled back in game four after losing game three," coach Kathy Litzau said. "There were a lot of ups and downs for both teams today."

The Panthers controlled each of the first two games, moving out to an 8-3 lead in game one and a 12-2 lead in game two. UWM immediately fell behind 8-0 in game three and never recovered. The Panthers broke a 3-3 tie with seven straight points in game four, and after Wright State (7-9, 2-2) pulled within 14-11, a Larissa Cattanach kill closed out the match.

"I really think Wright State set the tone of the match," Litzau said. "In the second game, with them hitting negative, we were playing their game instead of our game. We benefitted a lot more from their errors than from our good plays. In game three, we just weren't prepared for them to fight back, and they did."

UWM returns to MCC action Friday night at Cleveland State. The Panthers next home match is Oct. 20 against UW-Green Bay.
