Evan Berg is back for his third season as an assistant coach with the UWM volleyball program. Berg came to Milwaukee after a stellar playing career at Ball State University, where he served as team captain and earned All-MIVA honors in 2006 in helping the Cardinals to a 21-7 record. Berg has worked in a number of coaching roles both during and after his playing career. Prior to coming to UWM, he served as a coach with the Wisconsin Juniors Volleyball Club, working as the head coach for the 18-1's. He also helped his dad, Charlie Berg, coach the Westosha Central High School girls team to a WIAA Division I state title in 2007. Plus, the Bristol, Wis., native has worked at a number of volleyball camps across the midwest, including camps at the University of Wisconsin and Ball State. "Evan grew up in a gym because his dad has been a very successful high school coach," head coach Susie Johnson said. "Evan really wanted to get into college coaching. He was a very successful player his whole life but I think he really evolved in college because he played all of the positions and really had to work hard to learn. He became an underdog as a player a little bit and had to learn to be successful. He is still a great player and I think all of those factors give him the recipe for being a successful coach." |
