MILWAUKEE, Wis. (May 8, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team heads to Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend for the 2006 Horizon League Outdoor Championships. The Panthers will be looking to sweep the league's indoor and outdoor crowns for the third time in team history after winning the indoor meet in February. The outdoor meet gets underway Thursday and will conclude Friday.

Last Time Out
Senior Tenia Fisher broke the school record in the 400m and freshman Beth Zimmerman narrowly missed the triple jump mark for Milwaukee last weekend at the Wisconsin Twilight. Fisher ran a time of 54.80 to win the 400m and reset the school standard by just 0.01 seconds. The record of 54.81 had been set in 1984 by Diane Lemmit, while Fisher's previous best time had been 56.04. Zimmerman set PR's in both the long jump and triple jump, winning the long jump and taking third in the triple. In the long jump she cleared 18-3 for first, while she cleared 38-0 1/4 in the triple jump. Her triple jump is second in school history behind Michelle Fritsch's record-setting jump of 38-6 3/4.

Championship History
In eight Horizon League outdoor championship meets, the Panthers have been the victors four times, including the inaugural meet in 1998 and last in 2003. In fact, UWM won both the indoor and outdoor meets in 2003. This season, Milwaukee will look to accomplish the feat for the third time (2001).

Group Effort
UWM has the chance to become the second team in league history to sweep the men's and women's indoor and outdoor championships. The only team to successfully win all four titles: the 2001 Milwaukee Panthers.

Nice Weekend
To say Tenia Fisher had a nice weekend may be a bit of an understatement. On Saturday, she broke the school record in the 400m with a 1.24-second personal record. Then, at the annual UWM Student-Athlete Banquet Sunday, she was named the UWM Female Athlete of the Year. This year, she broke school records in all five of her events (indoor 400m, 600m and 800m/outdoor 400m and 800m) and won a pair of Horizon League titles (indoor 400m/800m). She was also recognized by the league, being named Outstanding Track Performer at the indoor meet and the League Indoor Athlete of the Year for the third-straight year.

Panthers who have qualified will head to the NCAA Mideast Regional, May 26-27, in Knoxville, Tenn. Hosted by the University of Tennessee, the regional will serve as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships, June 7-10, in Sacramento, Calif.
