Slamka Named League Track & Field Athlete Of The Week

April 27, 2005

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Junior Katie Slamka of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has been named the Horizon League Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. Slamka becomes the second Panther in three weeks to earn the award, as junior Stephanie Ray was honored April 13.

At the Central Collegiate Championships last Saturday, Slamka overcame windy conditions to win the 400m hurdles and take second in the 100m hurdle event. In the 400m hurdles, an event she won with a league-record time at last year's outdoor league meet, the Racine native topped the field with a time of 1:04.28. She also completed the 100m hurdles in 15.11 to finish as the runner up.

The Panthers return to action this weekend at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The three-day meet is non-scoring and gets underway Thursday, April 28.
