MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 26, 2006) - As the weeks before the Horizon League Championships tick away, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team continues to prepare, this week heading to the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The meet gets underway Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Last Time Out
Three Panthers won two events each as UWM won 11-of-16 events it competed in on its way to first place at the Illinois Benedictine Invite last Saturday. Milwaukee scored 245 points on the day, 152 more than second place (93) and more points than second, third and fourth place combined (232.5). Seniors Timeka Walker and Katie Slamka and freshman Kicha Cary each won two events for the Panthers to lead the way. Walker won both the 100m and 200m, Slamka swept the two hurdle events and Cary swept the horizontal jumps on the day.

Last Year At Drake
Milwaukee broke a school record in the sprint medley relay and posted strong times in the 10,000m to highlight last year's Drake Relays. In the sprint medley, Iris Perez, Griffin McNulty and Tenia Fisher teamed with Timeka Walker for the record-breaking performance. Anna Christian led the way in the 10,000m, taking ninth just over 10 seconds off her personal record, while Angie Huebner reset her PR by over 36 seconds for 12th.

Kickin' It In The Winner's Circle
During its last two scored meets, Milwaukee has been dominant to say the least. At both the Wisconsin Lutheran and Illinois Benedictine Invites, the Panthers won 11 events and won the meet by over 100 points. Senior Katie Slamka and junior Timeka Walker have led the way, winning a pair of events at each of the meets. UWM has also received two wins from freshman Beth Zimmerman at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invite and Kicha Cary last weekend.

Athlete Of The Week
Timeka Walker became the third Panther during the outdoor season to be named Horizon League Athlete of the Week when the league office announced its awards Tuesday. Walker followed senior Tenia Fisher (April 5) and freshman Jenni Saarinen (April 11) in winning the award, the second of her career. Walker won three events, including a relay, last weekend. She topped the field in the 100m with a time of 12.11 and ran her first sub-25.00 time of the season in winning the 200m in 24.92. With the 4x100m relay, she helped the corps to a time of 47.39.
