Saarinen Garners Scholar-Athlete Of The Week HonorsMILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 10, 2007) - Sophomore Jenni Saarinen of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team was named the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week for April 9 by the Horizon League, the league office announced today. This is the second time Saarinen has earned the honor after first doing so Feb. 14 during the indoor track and field season. Saarinen won the long jump and scored in three other events at last weekend's Big Blue Classic. She leapt 19-0 in the long jump and followed that up with a second-place showing in the high jump (5-3 3/4) and third-place finish in the javelin (125-10). She also took sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.77). The Finland native is an elementary education major and boasts a 3.808 grade point average. As a team, the Panthers placed third out of eight teams at the Big Blue Classic. They return to action this weekend at the Marquette Invitational (April 13-14) at Shimek Track in Milwaukee.
