Nearman Named Horizon League Athlete Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 1, 2008) - Junior Holly Nearman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team has been named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for March 31, the league office announced today. Nearman earned the award after the team's first outdoor meet of the season. The Panthers claimed four athlete of the week awards during the indoor campaign. Nearman opened her junior outdoor campaign with a strong performance at the Spring Classic last weekend in Carbondale, Ill. She ran a time of 4:40.56 to take second in the 1500m. That time is the eighth-fastest in school history. And, as a workout, Nearman ran the 800m as the only competitor in the heat and placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:19.66. The Panthers will return to action this weekend at the Big Blue Classic, April 4-5, in Charleston, Ill. Nearman, however, will be one of three runners heading to Palo Alto, Calif, for the Stanford Invitational those same days. She will be joined by senior Erin Magargee and sophomore Laura Ring.
