Panther Women Opens Outdoor Season In IllinoisMarch 23, 2005 MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team opens its 2005 outdoor season this weekend (March 26) when it travels to Carbondale, Ill., for the Spring Classic. The one-day event is hosted by Southern Illinois, and gets kicked off with field events at 8 a.m., while track events are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Milwaukee will be joined at the meet by 13 teams from throughout the state of Illinois and the region, including Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Florrisant Valley, Illinois State, Lincoln College, Miami (Ohio), Murray State, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Southern Indiana, Tennessee-Martin, Western Illinois and the host Salukis. UWM is three weeks removed from the conclusion of its indoor season at the Alex Wilson Invitational, where juniors Tenia Fisher, Stephanie Ray and sophomore Timeka Walker represented the Panthers. The remainder of the team has not competed since taking second at the 2005 Horizon League Indoor Championships the week prior. Fisher and Ray each won individual league championships for Milwaukee, topping the 800m and pole vault fields, respectively, while junior Griffin McNulty also brought home a league crown in the 1000m. There is no rest for the weary, as Milwaukee will head to West Lafayette, Ind., next weekend (April 1-2) for the Purdue Invitational. UWM does not have a weekend off until after the Horizon League Championships (May 13-14), giving it seven-straight weeks off competition heading into the league meet.
