Zimmerman Named League Athlete Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 27, 2008) - Junior Beth Zimmerman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team has been named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for Feb. 25, the league office announced today. This is the second award of the season for Zimmerman, who also earned the honor Jan. 14. This is also the second-straight week a Panther has earned the honor (Laura Ring, Feb. 18) and fourth time this season (Jenni Saarinen, Jan. 28). Zimmerman paced Milwaukee to a 4-0 record last Friday at the UWM Panther Tune Up, scoring wins over three other league schools in dual meet scoring. She broke her own school record in winning the triple jump with a leap of 39-9 ¾. That jump eclipsed her previous mark by over nine inches (39-0 ½). The Waterford, Wis., native also won the long jump with a leap of 19-5 ¼, missing the school record in that event by just ¼ inch. Zimmerman and the Panthers are in action this Saturday and Sunday at the 2008 Horizon League Indoor Championships in Kent, Ohio. Milwaukee is looking for a third-straight league indoor crown.
