Ring Named League Athlete Of The Week
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 20, 2008) - Sophomore Laura Ring of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team has been named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for Feb. 18, the league office announced today. The award is the first of her career, while she is the third Panther woman to earn the honor this season. Junior Beth Zimmerman earned the award Jan. 14 and junior Jenni Saarinen did the same Jan. 28. Ring led Milwaukee at the Iowa State Classic last weekend in Ames, Iowa. She won the unseeded 800m event with a time of 2:14.81. That time is the third-fastest 800m time in school history. UWM returns to action this Friday, hosting the UWM Panther Tune Up. The team's only home meet of the 2008 season, the Tune Up gets underway at 4 p.m. with the start of field events. Running events are expected to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
