Women's Track Has Solid Weekend At Iowa StateFeb. 17, 2003 MILWAUKEE - Laura Diers qualified for the finals of the 60m dash to lead several strong finishes for the Panthers at the Iowa State Invitational over the weekend at Ames, Iowa. Diers won her qualifying heat in 7.94 seconds to earn her spot in the finals, where she placed 13th overall in 7.95. Diers didn't have the only fast time in the 60m, though. Nicole Frey actually ran a faster time in a different heat, but narrowly missed out on the finals, finishing in 7.90 and 19th place. Sara Vanderloop was 26th in 8.03, followed by Iris Perez in 35th in 8.15. In other running events, Alison Shattuck was 30th in the 5000m in 18:38.84, while Katie Anderson was 35th in the women's mile in 5:17.56 and Abby Hurst was 31st in 10:37.24. Frey also took 20th in the 200m in 25.34, with Sara Vanderloop in 32nd in 25.73. Diers was 36th in 25.93, followed by Kristy Naef in 38th in 26.12 and Perez in 46th in 26.29. In the 400m, Katie Seep was 32nd in 58.11, with Tenia Fisher 36th in 58.57 and Teresa Braunreiter in 41st in 59.35. Amber Perri finished 47th in 1:00.65, with Katie Slamka 51st in 1:01.27. In the 60m hurdles, Naef was 21st in 9.21, with Stephanie Kenesie and Slamka tied for 27th in 9.30. In addition, the women's mile relay of Seep, Fisher, Braunreiter and Perri was 12th in 3:55.26. In field events, Kenesie was 13th in the long jump with a best effort of 17-9.75, with Naef 26th, jumping 16-10. Michelle Fritsch was 30th with a jump of 16-7.25. Lynda Thiel was 10th in the pole vault, clearing 11-0.25. She was also 14th in the high jump after clearing 5-4.5.
The Panthers will return home this week to host the UWM Pre-Conference Quadrangular at the Klotsche Center Friday evening. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
