Zimmerman Named Horizon League Athlete Of The Week

Junior jumper won a pair of events at season-opener

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 15, 2008) - Junior Beth Zimmerman of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field has been named the Horizon League Athlete of the Week for Jan. 14, the league office announced today.

Zimmerman's honor comes after the team's first competition of the indoor season. And, with senior Larry Ehrhorn on the men's side, the Panthers swept the league awards for the week.

Zimmerman got her junior campaign off to a tremendous start, winning both the long jump and triple jump at the Division I Invitational last weekend in Kenosha, Wis. She leapt 18-3 in winning the long jump. In the triple jump, she took top honors with her jump of 38-0 ¼. She also competed in the 55m, taking fifth in the finals with a time of 7.51.

Milwaukee won the event, taking first in the four-team field.

The Panthers will return to action Jan. 25-26 at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational in Madison.
