Fisher Breaks Panther 400m Record At Wisconsin Twilight

Senior runner adds fifth school record to resume

MADISON, Wis. (May 6, 2006) - Senior Tenia Fisher broke the school record in the 400m and freshman Beth Zimmerman narrowly missed the triple jump mark as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team competed at the Wisconsin Twilight, Saturday in Madison.

The meet was the Panthers' final in preparing for the Horizon League Championships next weekend in Indianapolis, Ind.

Fisher, already the school record holder in the indoor 400, 600m and 800m and outdoor 800m, ran a time of 54.80 to win the 400m and reset the school standard by just 0.01 seconds. The record of 54.81 had been set in 1984 by Diane Lemmit, while Fisher's previous best time had been 56.04.

Zimmerman set PR's in both the long jump and triple jump, winning the long jump and taking third in the triple. In the long jump she cleared 18-3 for first, while she cleared 38-0 1/4 in the triple jump. Her triple jump is second in school history behind Michelle Fritsch's record-setting jump of 38-6 3/4.

Freshman Kory Olson also placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 17-1 1/2, while freshman Kicha Cary was sixth in the long jump (17-0) and fifth in the triple jump (36-4).

Senior Timeka Walker rounded out the Milwaukee winners by topping the 100m field with a time of 12.07. Junior Marcia Roundtree was third in 12.70 and freshman LeaDrean Jordan fourth in 12.76. In the 200m, Roundtree was second in 26.16 and Jordan fifth in 25.27.

Milwaukee also received top-five finishes from senior Katie Slamka in the javelin and senior Jodi Hrdina in the 100m hurdles. Slamka threw 119-2, while Hrdina ran a time of 15.60. Senior Andrea Ziebell finished just behind Hrdina in sixth with a time of 15.72.
