Panthers Wrap Up Weekend At Sea Ray Relays
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 12, 2008) - Sophomore Abbie Zaspel and the distance medley relay each took fourth place to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team on the final day of the Sea Ray Relays Saturday at the University of Tennessee. Zaspel finished the 10,000m in 39:06.54 for her fourth-place showing. The distance medley relay, consisting of juniors Danielle Magargee and Holly Nearman and sophomores Kelsey Conrad and Laura Ring, ran a time of 12:13.72, also taking fourth. Their time is fourth-best in school history. Junior Beth Zimmerman had a strong showing on the meet's final day, leaping 39-2 1/4 in the triple jump and 18-11 1/4 in the long jump. Her jumps put her 13th in the triple and 17th in the long jump competitions. Sophomore Reigna Pierce also competed in the triple jump, taking 21st with a distance of 37-9 1/4. In the 800m, Milwaukee boasted a pair of top-20 finishers in senior Shannon Buttchen and Ring. Buttchen was 15th with a time of 2:16.08 and Ring crossed the line in 2:16.34 for 19th. Buttchen was also a part of the Panthers' 4x800m relay that took eighth. Nearman, sophomore Erin Willis and freshman Tanaiya Fisher rounded out the relay team competed the event in 9:30.18.
Sophomore Erin Havener was UWM's last top-20 finisher, tying for 16th in the pole vault. She had a final height of 11-11 3/4. Meanwhile, Magargee was the last Panther competitor, taking 38th in the 1500m with a time of 4:52.45.
