Havener Breaks School Pole Vault Mark At Big Blue Classic
CHARLESTON, Ill. (April 5, 2008) - Sophomore Erin Havener cleared a school-record 12-1 ½ in the pole vault to break a school record and lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team in action on the final day of the Big Blue Classic Saturday at Eastern Illinois. Havener eclipsed Lynda Thiel's school standard of 12-0 ½ with her jump, taking third in the event. She also increased her personal best by almost seven inches (11-5 ¾). Junior Jes Weyandt also PR'd in the event, clearing 11-7 ¾ fourth and secure sole possession of third in school history. Freshman Chelsea Von Ruden led nine more Panthers finishing in the top five on the day, placing second in the high jump. She cleared 5-6 in the event to take second on the day, but also move up to fourth in school history. Junior Jenni Saarinen was fourth in the event, clearing 5-4 ¼. Junior Beth Zimmerman, who tied Saarinen for first in the long jump Friday, took third in the triple jump Saturday. She leapt 38-9 ½, while sophomore Reigna Pierce took fifth at 38-0 ¼. In the shorter sprint events, sophomore Kelsey Conrad finished in the top five in both the 100m and 200m. In the 100m, she ran 12.39 for fourth. She had a time of 12.04 in the preliminaries, which is the fourth-best time in school history. She also PR'd in the 200m with a time of 24.75, taking third. Sophomore Jamie Woods rounded out the squad's top-five showings, taking fifth in the shot put. She threw a personal-record 41-10 ¾ in the event.
At the Stanford Invitational in California, senior Erin Magargee completed the team's participants, running 4:45.57. She took fourth in her heat and 53rd overall. The Panthers return to action next weekend at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. |
