Ray Sets School Mark In Leading Panther Women At Purdue Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior Stephanie Ray broke the school record in the pole vault to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team at the non-scoring Purdue Invitational, Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. Ray now holds the Panther marks for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault events.

Ray finished fourth in the event as she cleared 12-1 3/4. The former record was held by Lynda Thiel, who had previously topped 12-0 1/4. Ray set the school indoor mark twice earlier in 2005.

The Panthers' top finisher on the day was sophomore Timeka Walker. Walker competed in both the 100m and 200m events, posting the third-fastest times in school history in both events. In the 100m, she finished second, crossing the line in 11.89. The Milwaukee native also placed third in the 200m, completing the event in 24.58.

Junior Katie Slamka placed among the top 10 in three events for UWM, including a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles. She finished the event in 1:02.58, while also posting a ninth-place finish in the 100m hurdles, where she finished in 14.77. Also competing in the javelin, she took sixth with a toss of 114-10, while Ray placed 10th in the javelin with a throw of 98-5.

Milwaukee's relay team of senior Teresa Braunreiter, juniors Tenia Fisher, Griffin McNulty and freshman Shannon Buttchen ran to a fourth-place finish in the 4x400m relay. The quartet completed the event in 3:54.99. Fisher also ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400m, while McNulty added an eighth-place showing in the 800m. She crossed the line in 2:16.58.
