Panthers Go 3-1 In Final Tune Up Before League Meet
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Feb. 17, 2006) - Sophomore Joy VanLaanen set a Klotsche Center record to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team to a 3-1 record at the UWM Panther Tune Up Friday evening in Milwaukee. The meet featured dual meet scoring, with the Panthers picking up wins against Chicago State (77-40), UIC (70-63) and Loyola (68-61). UWM also fell to Wisconsin, 63-58. VanLaanen cleared 12-3 3/4 to win the pole vault and eclipse the mark of 12-1 3/4 set by senior Stephanie Ray at last season's Tune Up. Ray finished second in the event, finishing with a final height of 11-1 3/4. Junior Timeka Walker won the 60m and freshman LeaDrean Jordan won the 200m to round out the Panthers' winners. Walker completed the 60m with a time of 7.73, while Jordan led teammates in the third through fifth places with a time of 8.00. Jordan then ran a time of 26.41 to win the 200m. Sophomore Octavia Erkins finished third in the event in 26.78. Milwaukee also posted four second-place finishes, led by senior Katie Slamka in the 60m hurdles. She crossed the line in 9.15. Freshman Jenni Saarinen was fourth in the event in 9.49, the ninth-best time in school history. Senior Griffin McNulty also finished second in the mile run with a time of 5:12.53, while senior Katie Anderson was second in the 800m in 2:21.97. Freshman Beth Zimmerman rounded out UWM's second-place finishers, jumping 37-1 in the triple jump.
