Panthers Open Fall Play At Ball StateSept. 29, 2004 MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team will open the fall portion of its schedule with the Ball State Invitational this weekend. Nine teams will be at this weekend's event, which will include five flights of singles with draws of 16 players apiece plus round-robin competition in doubles. Seniors Tammie Spiel and Erin Felber and junior Margie Van Lieshout are expected to lead the Panthers in their first season under head coach Mara Lencina. Van Lieshout played most of last season at #1 singles while Spiel earned six singles wins and six doubles wins. Felber added three wins last year. Newcomers Traci Litscher from Eau Claire and transfer Jenna McConnell from Hartland could also have an impact this season. Lencina took over the Panther program this month from Erika Wentz, who resigned to dedicate more time to her job with the Elite Fitness and Racquet Clubs in the Milwaukee area. Lencina has had success as a head coach before, winning coach of the year honors while at Mt. Mary College and at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Actton will take place at both the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center and at Northside Middle School Courts in Muncie and gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Joining the Panthers in the event are Ball State, Butler, Dayton, IPFW, IUPUI, Miami, Northern Illinois and Wright State.
