UWM's Brown On A Roll

Freshman 2-0 after day one at N. Illinois Tennis Tournament

MILWAUKEE - UWM freshman Megan Brown has advanced to the third round of play at the Northern Illinois Tournament.

Brown, competing in just her second collegiate tournament, opened play by defeating Jessica Patterson of Butler in two sets, 6-4, 7-5. She then defeated Victoria Robertson, also of Butler, in two sets, 6-3, 6-1.

In other action, junior Molly Caulk is 0-2 after dropping a pair of matches. She fell to Northern Illinois' Erica Heshelman, 6-1, 6-0, and to Branka Savic, also from Northern Illinois, 6-0, 6-0.

In the second round of singles play, senior Shauna Jansen won the first set over Marissa Bianchi of Butler, but then dropped the next two, losing 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Play continues through Sunday at the Anderson Hall Tennis Courts in DeKalb, Ill.
