Panthers Heading To Ball State Invitational

UWM continues fall slate

Sept. 24, 2008

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team returns to action this weekend, heading to Muncie, Ind., for the Ball State Invitational.

In addition to the Panthers and the hosts from Ball State, six other schools will take part in the event. The tournament consists of four flights of singles with draws of 16 players apiece. There will also be four flights of doubles with pool play in each flight.

UWM opened its limited fall schedule two weeks ago, claiming a dual win over Whitewater before collecting a number of solid performances at the Bradley Invitational. In all, Panther players collected 14 singles wins and four doubles victories at Bradley. Ashley Schoneman was perfect in Peoria, going 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. Meanwhile, Kelly Drvaric was unbeaten in Flight A singles.

The tournament also includes Northern Illinois, IPFW, IUPUI, Butler, Dayton and Bradley. Competition is scheduled to take place at both the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center and Northside Middle School in Muncie, weather permitting.

After play this weekend, a limited number of Panthers will likely compete at the ITA Regionals in October. Then, the full squad will return to action for the spring campaign, which opens Jan. 19 at Marquette.
