Northern Illinois Tournament ends three weeks without a match for Panthers

MILWAUKEE (Sept. 24, 2001) - The UWM women's tennis team is preparing to travel to DeKalb, Ill., for their first matches in three weeks. The Panthers will compete in the Northern Illinois Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30.

UWM last played Sept. 7-9 at the Eastern Illinois Tournament. Several Panthers had good tournaments including freshmen Megan Brown (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and Erin Felber (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet).

Brown advanced to the semifinals in No. 2 singles at Eastern Illinois, while Felber advanced to the semifinals in No. 3 singles. Each will be carrying a record of 2-1 on the season into the Northern Illinois Tournament.

The Panthers also had success at doubles, junior Molly Caulk (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and senior Kate Laveck (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) teamed up to advance to the semifinals in doubles play in No. 1 doubles.

Next on the Schedule

The Panthers will have another week off before beginning dual-match play. The Panthers will travel to Green Bay, Wis., for a pair of dual matches on Sat., Oct. 13. UWM takes on IUPU-Indianapolis at 9 a.m. and challenges UW-Green Bay at 1 p.m.

UWM then returns home for their only two home dual matches of the fall season as they take on Western Illinois on Oct. 19 and Wright State on Oct. 20. Both matches will be played at Nicolet High School in Glendale.
