UWM Tennis Takes A Break

Panthers have two weeks off before playing in Northern Illinois Invitational

Sept. 17, 2001

MILWAUKEE (Sept. 17, 2001) - The UWM women's tennis team is currently in the midst of an extended break before their next competition.

The Panthers will next compete in the Northern Illinois Invitational on Sept. 29 and 30 in DeKalb, Ill.

UWM was scheduled to compete in the Billiken Classic in St. Louis this past weekend, but that event was cancelled due to last week's national tragedy and will not be made up.

Last Time Out

The Panthers last competed on Sept. 7 and 8 at the Eastern Illinois Tournament. No team scores were kept, but several Panthers individually had good tournaments.

Freshmen Megan Brown (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and Erin Felber (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) each made the semifinals of their brackets in No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

The Panthers had some success in doubles play as well. Junior Molly Caulk (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) and senior Kate Laveck (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) teamed up to advance to the semifinals in No. 1 doubles.

Looking Ahead

After competing at the Northern Illinois Invitational, the Panthers will begin the dual-match portion of their fall schedule. UWM will take on IUPUI and UW-Green Bay on Oct. 13 in Green Bay. They will then return home for their only two home matches for the fall season, on Oct. 19 and 20, against Western Illinois and Wright State.
