Panthers Head To MCC Tennis Tournament

UWM drops two during final weekend of regular season

April 25, 2001

MILWAUKEE - The UWM women's tennis team is the seventh seed heading into this weekend's Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

The Panthers finished the MCC season 1-5 after dropping matches to UW-Green Bay and Illinois-Chicago over the weekend.

UWM will face second-seeded Wright State in the first round. The Raiders beat the Panthers in Dayton in March. UWM will face either Butler or Detroit at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the second round. The Panthers would be eliminated from the tournament with two losses.

Against UW-Green Bay Fridat at the North Shore Elite Racquet Club in Glendale, the Panthers fell 7-0. But, Jamie Martin and Kate Laveck earned a hard-fought 8-6 win at first doubles, pleasing coach Erin Grambow.

"What a terrific win for these girls," Grambow said. "They proved that hard work pays off."

Saturday against regular-season league champion Illinois-Chicago, the Panthers again fell 7-0.
