Panthers Head To Ohio For Key League Contests

UWM trying to hold on to third place

April 9, 2008

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team heads to Ohio for a pair of key league contests this weekend.

Saturday's match at Cleveland State is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST while Sunday's outing at Youngstown State is set for 10 a.m. EST.

The Panthers (11-8, 3-1 Horizon) currently sit tied for third place in league play with Detroit, a team UWM beat earlier this season. CSU is just a game back of both of those squads.

Cleveland State is 13-6 overall and has split its first four league matches entering a Friday contest with Green Bay. CSU's two league losses have come to Butler and Detroit by identical 4-3 scores. The Vikings have shown strength at the bottom of their lineup, with Sanda Bjelan recording a 17-7 mark while playing primarily at #4 singles while Denisa Muntean is 16-7 in mainly the #6 slot.

Youngstown State (3-14, 0-3) has dropped five-straight matches entering a Saturday contest with Green Bay. Anna Volkova has led the Penguins with seven wins at #1 singles, but YSU has seen its squad go 9-39 in doubles action during dual matches this season.

On the UWM front, Kari Kastenholz has now won seven-straight singles matches. She also teamed with Sammi Schoen for the first time this season in helping the Panthers capture the doubles point for just the second time in their last seven outings. Jenna Felsher continues to lead the team with 21 overall singles victories.

After this weekend's road trip, the Panthers wrap up the regular season with a pair of home contests. UWM hosts league favorite UIC Wed., April 16 before hosting in-state rival Green Bay Sat., April 19. The league tournament is then the following weekend in Indianapolis.
