Panthers Head To Michigan For Pair Of Friday Contests

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend. The Panthers will actually play twice on Friday, taking on Detroit in a Horizon League match in the morning before squaring off with Oakland in a non-league contest that evening. Milwaukee (8-8, 3-2 Horizon) split two matches this past weekend, winning at Valparaiso before falling at home to Cleveland State. Detroit (10-6, 4-1) has won eight of its last nine dual matches, with its only loss during the span coming against Butler. Sophie Sjoberg-Sunds has shown the way for the Titans, posting a 19-9 overall mark in singles play, including 12 wins in dual matches. Detroit has also been particularly strong in doubles, winning 56 percent of its matches as a team. Oakland (5-6) has split four matches in Summit League play. Karen Karoub and Caitlin Young have eight singles wins apiece while two doubles tandems have each tallied five wins. The Grizzlies have faced a pair of Horizon League foes this year, beating Valparaiso while falling to Cleveland State. For the Panthers, Jenna Felsher continues to top the victory chart, tallying 13 singles wins. Sammi Schoen and Megan Gow are next with 12 singles wins apiece. In doubles play, Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz have 11 wins while Ashley Schoneman and Sammi Schoen have 10. But, UWM has struggled overall in doubles play, winning just 40 percent of the time in dual-match play.
